About Topsy Curvy: Topsy Curvy is a collective of Black/Brown Femmes who practice the radically defiant act of body liberation through the vehicle of Burlesque. This medium allows them to recognize and celebrate the fullness of bodily experiences, including not only weight and size, but also race, age, (dis)ability, gender, attraction, and other categories of personhood. They demand their audience think about the complexities of desire, sexuality and identity through the lens of Black and Brown Femmes.
Topsy Curvy also recognizes that we live in a society that consistently threatens the lives and autonomy of its citizens; and where sexuality will always be a target for political, religious, and heteronormative agendas. For them, Burlesque is an act of rebellion that says sexuality can be viewed as the celebration of one’s self through sex-positivity and the liberation of all bodies.
